| About Laura
I’m a fully-qualified childbirth educator under the British National Childbirth Trust (NCT) and a recognised birth companion trained with Doula UK (DUK). My husband, our two little
children and I live together with our dog in the Racine area. My Californian roots are thoroughly disguised by my upbringing in England, where I was raised the daughter of a minister and went on to earn a Masters in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford.
As an adult I have also gained rich experience living in Fiji, Germany and Serbia.
Having given birth to my children beautifully and simply at home, I am
full of wonder at the way in which this can happen. My little ones’ births
taught me the importance of good preparation and companionship during the
transition to motherhood, and the long-term impact birth has on the spirits of
all family members. These births also ignited my interest in midwifery, a word which means 'with woman' -- and this outlook underlies my teaching and doula work.
I also have specific training in physical skills for birth, massage, baby massage,
care of the laboring woman, normal and abnormal labor, yoga, active listening, breastfeeding support
and optimal fetal positioning, and subscribe to various professional journals
to keep my knowledge current.
I love singing, walking, traveling, reading, drawing, praying, dancing,
debating and cooking.
I would love to get to know
you in person. Please contact me.
